Singleton High School welcomed more than 350 Year 12 students from across the Hunter and Newcastle regions on Friday, May 29 for its 23rd annual HSC Seminar Day – one of the largest and longest-running events of its kind in regional New South Wales.
Students from 13 secondary schools gathered at Singleton for a day dedicated to HSC preparation, with access to a wide range of subject-specific seminars delivered by leading educators and experts from across the state.
The annual Seminar Day provides a unique opportunity for regional students to access the same level of specialised academic support often associated with metropolitan schools. At a time when many students travel significant distances to attend enrichment programs or revision lectures, Singleton High School brings this expertise directly to the Hunter, ensuring students can benefit from high-quality learning experiences close to home.
Over the course of the day, students selected seminars aligned to their individual HSC subjects and interests. Sessions were presented by university lecturers, senior HSC markers and highly experienced classroom teachers, offering valuable insights into course content, examination expectations and proven strategies for HSC success.
What makes the event particularly remarkable is its scale and longevity.
Now in its 23rd year, the seminar day has become a highly anticipated fixture on the educational calendar, supporting thousands of students from regional communities over more than two decades. Few schools across New South Wales host an event of this size, and even fewer have sustained such a successful collaboration between schools and educational experts for so many years.
The Seminar Day also provides an opportunity for schools across the region to work together in support of student achievement. By bringing students from a diverse range of communities together in a shared learning environment, the event fosters both academic excellence and a strong sense of regional collaboration.
Students left the day with a deeper understanding of their courses, practical examination advice and renewed confidence as they continue preparations for their Higher School Certificate.
A highlight of the event was the catering provided by Singleton High School’s Year 10 Food Technology students. As part of their practical learning, students prepared and served lunch for presenters and visiting staff, showcasing their skills in planning, food preparation and hospitality service. The quality of the catering has become a well-known feature of the event and is always warmly received by guests.
