Singleton Public School is proud to have four of its talented athletes heading to the Primary School Sports Association State Athletics Carnival at Homebush in Sydney on October 22.
Nine-year-old Lunah, Mia and Kane (both 11) and eight-year-old Flynn will represent their school and the Hunter as they compete against other students in this prestigious event.
Lunah and Mia will both compete in the shotput event for their age group while Kane will run in the 200m and Flynn in the 100m.
Lunah has been training every Sunday and is nervous about going to state but also really excited.
“Shot put has been helping me by giving me something to do, and I am thankful to my mum and dad for supporting me in everything I do,” Lunah told The Hunter River Times.
Mia trains two to three times a week and has a personal best of 8.32 metres. Mia is nervous about competing against the other students but is happy she made it to state.
She also thanked her parents for their support and her coach Hilliary Kennedy who has given her the tips to ensure she does her best at the event.
Year 6 student Kane has been working hard to cut down his 200m times and currently has it down to a competitive 39 seconds. He has been training every day and is happy to be going to state. when asked how he felt about doing the 200m Kane said running helps to keep him fit.
“It is very cool to have my mum as my coach,” he said.
Year 3 student Flynn will compete in the 100m and has been practising hard to ensure he gives the event his very best.
