Three Singleton Amateur Swimming Club members represented their club qualifying and competing at the 2025 VERIU NSW Country Championships in Sydney over the weekend of February 14 and 15.
At 36 years of age, Shane Kannar was the eldest competitor at this event competing in the 17 and Over 100-meter Breaststroke.
Shane has spent lots of time on the SOPAC (Sydney Olympic Pool Aquatic Centre) pool deck in his early days of swimming. Not only is it just about his achievement in qualifying for such an event, but Shane is also a great mentor for the younger ones and always there to help out on pool deck.
Shanae Howard, 23, also qualified and competed in the 17 and Over 50-meter freestyle taking home a personal best time.
The last time Shanae competed at this event was 10 years ago!
Club president Lea Scoular said it was wonderful to see the club’s senior members competing at such a high level again.
Molly Scoular qualified for the 13yrs 50 and 100 meter backstroke bringing home personal best times.
Lea, who happens to be Molly’s mum, said a personal best time in both events was the goal.
“The smile on her face after both events was priceless. To get this far is a massive achievement,” Lea said.
“Singleton Amateur Swimming Club so grateful we have a compassionate squad coach Jane Roby who puts in 100 per cent with our kids.”
“We are lucky to have Jane at the Gym & Swim for these children who want to compete. It keeps them fit, builds endurance and confidence to get out and race.”
It has been a great season for the Singleton Amateur Swimming Club reaching 104 members which includes six adults. The SASC committee all pull together every Thursday night to make sure the kids (and adults) have a fun night of racing.
The club is heading towards the end of the season with registrations opening back up in September for the 25/26 season. Head over and like their page “Singleton Amateur Swimming Club” all correspondence will be posted there.
