Singleton’s Sonny Heffernan has made history, marking his 50th consecutive PBR Junior Academy event at the PBR Caboolture Invitational – the first rider in Australia to ever reach that milestone in the PBR Junior Academy.
Sonny has been riding bulls since he was five years old. It’s no surprise he’s at home in the bullriding arena with his uncle Cody Heffernan a two-time Australian PBR Champion and the rest of his family dabbling in the sport including cousin Lane who is in the Rising Star division of the PBR Junior Academy.
“I love everything about bull riding, the thrill and excitement of getting on a bull and trying to hold on,” Sonny said.
“It’s a lot of fun and the PBR is a great association. If you want to win a title you win it here.”
There’s no stopping Sonny, after his 50th consecutive ride at Caboolture, he jumped on a plane to head to the International Mini Bull Riding Association (IMBA) World Finals in Ogden, Utah.
It is a huge achievement with only Sonny and his cousin Lane selected to head over from NSW.
The PBR Caboolture Invitational also saw Tamworth cowboy Lachlan Slade win the event for the older riders with an aggregate score of 87.50. Hot on his heels was Clint Glass from Willow Tree and New Zealand’s Rylee Ward in third.
