There were sellout crowds at the Lake Liddell Speedbowl over the long weekend for the POWRi Racing Australia Microsprint National Titles.
Across Saturday and Sunday nights competitors from as far as Perth juked it out for the title, with Murrurundi’s Cooper Norman and Singleton’s Bailey Carter flying the local flag in the juniors.
Cooper shared that the first night of racing was a positive one with a win and a third in the heats, and fourth in the feature.
“It was really fun we were hopping and stuff because it was so rowdy and it was actually kind of fun just getting the elbows up,” he said.
“I’m used to this joint been really slick so they always like it to get on the top but yesterday, it was just follow the leader on the bottom and try not to roll over on the ruts.”
Night two was all about the National Title race, with all the damage caused from the previous night being fixed and a full contingent of juniors running on Sunday.
“We started on the front row on the Aussie title and were off second, dad was just like this is probably the last one, so just give it all,” Cooper shared after the feature.
“I just had that mindset to go out there and send it, and obviously I sent a bit too hard and ended up in second.”
After leading for half of the feature Cooper was passed with 15 laps to go and was unable to catch Victorian Hugo Chivell who took the win and Bailey came third.
Cooper shared that they are looking at stepping up into a Sprintcar for next season, but they will keep the microsprint to do some local runs from time to time.
