The NSW Police Recruitment Roadshow will hit Muswellbrook next weekend to give the community a look at all the options available in the force.
“We’ll have representatives from a whole range of different branches within police, like rescue, dog squad, mounted unit, forensics, I think even somebody from the air wing,” chief inspector Guy Guiana from the Hunter Valley Local Area Command said.
“They’ll all have some display type material and handouts describing their various roles within the New South Wales Police and it’s all aimed at familiarisation with the general public about all the options you have after you’ve joined the police and done a couple of initial years as a general duties copper.”
There is no shortage of avenues to explore within policing making it ideal for anyone wanting to make a difference, but also spending some time doing something they enjoy like working with computers, animals or young people.
The Roadshow will also feature information about the training process, which is now a paid process and there is a focus on getting recruits back into their hometown so they don’t have to uproot everything for a station assignment.
This works for both older individuals who are looking at a career change and new school leavers looking to start a career.
Chief inspector Guiana has been in the NSW Police force for 37 years, having made the change from being a tradie himself, and says he could not imagine having done anything else for this long.
“I did the rounds of the metro area in central Sydney, and I was in the Air Wing for a few years, I’ve done a few different things, I’ve done plain clothes and that sort of thing,” he shared of his career over the years.
“But for me, probably the most rewarding thing for my career was moving to a place like this and making connections with people, in the community as well as the cops.”
The NSW Police Recruitment Roadshow will be at Muswellbrook PCYC on Sunday September 22 from 10am to 2pm, no registration is required but more information can be found on the NSW Police website.
