Singleton Striders athletics coach Hilary Kennedy could not have been prouder of her athletes last week.
Shortly after she was made aware of a ‘Share the Dignity’ donation point in Singleton she called her own athletics community into action.
“I came across a post on Facebook and it really grabbed me,” Kennedy told The Hunter River Times.
“Having been through some bad times as a young Mum I was aware of the campaign and was surprised at the lack of donations.
“I then thought I should put it to my squad.”
The campaign benefits those in crisis experiencing period poverty with the belief that everyone deserves to be afforded the dignity so many of us take for granted.
Kennedy initially pledged $50 worth of products and offered to suspend all coaching fees that week in exchange for the same value in donations.
“The feedback was fabulous,” she recalled.
“We are all very privileged that these issues aren’t something most of us would worry about day to day.
“We as a squad have supported other organisations so during this especially isolating time I figured I could go without my wage so that women who were in need could at least be at ease during times that were less than ideal.”
By Wednesday the group had collected five bags worth of female sanitary products donated at the Singleton Woolworth’s donation point.
