Singleton Strikers’ first grade coach Mick Jarvis admits he is undecided about his side’s starting line-up this round.
The second-year mentor has witnessed his side celebrate season opening victories against Cessnock (2-1), Thornton (2-0) and Kahibah (1-0) and admits each victory has been without some of his best available starters.
“We haven’t been trying to set the world on fire but trying to get the small things right, it has been pretty good,” Jarvis explained.
“We’re still missing Jake Barner every week, Brad Cox most weeks and we missed Jackson Skinner and Joe Civello for a game each.
“There are all due back soon but there’s also been a bit of hype on young Callan Hungerford who was named in the Northern League One team of the year.”
The Strikers will play Wallsend in the top vs. bottom clash at the Gardens on Sunday at 2:30pm. They will then play off against powerhouse Belmont-Swansea before returning to Howe Park for their first home game against West Wallsend on Friday, April 7.
MEANWHILE the Strikers are also scheduled to play Newcastle Croatia in Round 3 of the Australia Cup (formerly FFA Cup) next week.
Newcastle Croatia defeated Merewether 13-0 in Round 2.
