Robert Marlow enters strongman competitions without the intention of winning and the inaugural Naturally Aspirated World Qualifier Australia was no different.
This mentality has helped Robert earn a place in a competition in Ireland later this year.
“I feel excited, I like to push myself against the best,” he shared when discussing the recent success.
“Most of the comps I do in New South Wales are against some of the best guys in Australia.”
Earlier this year Robert and his partner, Natasha Johnson, traveled to Adelaide for the competition saw him take on five events with the goal of finishing with the highest combined score.
“I was a little bit worried going into the first event, I still felt stiff and sore (from his flight),” he said of the overhead medley that opened proceedings.
“It wasn’t the smoothest run I’ve had but it was enough to do what I needed to do, I got the event win on it.”
He went on to also win the deadlifts for reps event with four at 250kg, the timed 330kg yoke carry, and the stones event which he lifted the 140kg stone for six reps.
The only event of the five from the day he did not win was the sand bag throw, which is not something that Robert has much experience in as the throwing he has done is for height not distance.
Robert will now focus solely on the Natural Worlds event in August, with his training easing off for a few months to prepare for the peak he needs to compete against some of the strongest men in the world.
His training takes a lot of time, and he is supported every step of the way by Crossfit Muswellbrook, East Coast Supplements Muswellbrook and his partner and family.
