Not even Australia’s tallest mountain can slow down Muswellbrook’s Anika Facer and her family on their mission to get the most out of life.
The eight-year-old and her team next month take on the 18.7 kilometre Mount Kosciuszko Trail for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s Krazy Kosci Klimb.
“It is very exciting, and we’re looking forward to it,” Anika’s mum Kylie shared.
“The day will be full of music and each checkpoint they’ve got different things to keep the kids spirits up, and obviously when we reach the top we will be able to get that incredible photo of Annika standing at the highest point of Australia.
“There’s 16 teams heading up this year, led by kids of varying ages and varying abilities. It’ll be a really lovely event, just to watch them all achieve such a goal, and the atmosphere, I can only imagine.”
Anika will be joined on the February 8 adventure by her parents, Kylie and Kris, her Uncle Matt, two representatives from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and four representatives from their corporate sponsor JLL.
Anika is one of the youngest participants this year and she has chosen Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue as her song, and their team theme is the TV show Miraculous.
“That’s the costumes that I picked because I watch it all the time,” she said, adding she and mum will be Ladybug and dad and Uncle Matt will be Cat Noir.
The Muswellbrook community will get the chance to see their costumes and support their fundraising efforts as they will do a test run around town on Sunday, February 1.
“We’re going to stretch our legs and test out our costumes on the first of February, we’re leaving from Hunter Bell Cheese Cafe at about nine o’clock in the morning, and we’re doing a 14 kilometre loop around Muswellbrook, back to Hunter Bell, where we’ll have raffles and the likes at the end of the day, just to try and raise a little bit more money,” Kylie said.
“If we can get as many people as possible to join us, I think it’ll just add a little bit of eye attraction as we’re walking along.”
A Facebook event for the local event has been created, called Krazi Kosci Practice Walk, for anyone after information.
