Kurri Kurri’s Angus Hutchinson has reclaimed the title of NSW Long Track Pro 250cc Champion in Quirindi on the weekend.
“I went into this meeting with my main focus on the 250, I qualified second (for the final), got second gate pick, and after a pretty shocking start I was fourth out of the first corner and kind of put my head down, bum up, and just went for it,” he recounted of the title race.
“That was a really good race, I was actually shocked by it, speechless, I came from fourth and just started picking them off one by one. Didn’t give up and sure enough, I was rewarded just over the line.”
Angus took the win by half a wheel as they crossed the finish line in a race that was just as thrilling to watch as it was to be a part of.
The last-minute pass on Caleb Wilkes, who Angus has been racing with for years, was realised by both riders as soon as the chequered flag dropped.
“We were looking at each other as he went over the line, and I feel like I instantly knew that I got him, and I could see it on his face as well, he put his head down,” Angus told The Hunter River Times.
This is not the first time Angus has held the NSW Long Track Pro 250cc title. He was successful back in 2020 and has placed third in the subsequent years of the event hosted by Tamworth Motorcycle Club.
Angus has been racing dirt track since he was seven and the whole family gets involved with race weekends when they travel around NSW for events.
While they are a mostly self-funded operation, Angus would like to thank Kyzac Powder Coating for supporting his racing.
Two other Kurri Kurri locals also made their way to the top step on Sunday. Jarred Marko who along with his passenger Shaun Fuller took out the dirt track sidecar title, and after another thrilling final for a stacked Pro 450cc class, Cameron Dunker came away victorious.
