If you head about 37 minutes Northeast of the town of Singleton, on a scenic country drive you will find yourself at two small towns, Gresford and 2 kms further along, East Gresford.
Both of which are located near the Southern edge of the Barrington Tops National Park.
Apart from being a stopover on the way to Barrington tops, another interesting feature of the two Gresford’s is the suspension bridge and the historical St Anne’s Anglican Church.
The current brick building of St Anne’s was completed in 1898.
While adjacent to the Church, is the suspension bridge that presides over the Paterson River. This was the site of the original ford across the river and was part of the road to Singleton.
A pedestrian bridge over the Paterson River was built in 1911. However, the suspension bridge wasn’t proposed until 1936 and its construction wasn’t completed until the 1960’s.
It was last Sunday that my partner and I took a drive up to Gresford, and there in East Gresford we found the Twin Rivers Café, located right next to the Beatty Hotel in Park Street.
The Twin Rivers Café offers inside and outside dining, 7 days a week from 8am till 3pm Monday to Friday and 8am till 12pm Saturday and Sunday. On the menu you will find a decent selection for breakfast till 11am, with an all-day menu offering sandwiches, melts, and burgers.
In addition to the delightful food and lovely atmosphere, the Twin Rivers Café also has various souvenirs and gifts for sale, such as assorted kitchen and wood crafts, organic candles and best of all home made ‘Burr Cutter Pickles’ which, if you enjoy a good pickle on toast, I highly recommend the Burr Cutter Pickles.
As we took an early morning drive, we decided to have breakfast at the Twin Rivers Café, we ordered a vanilla malted shake and a hot chocolate. You could really taste the malt, and the hot choc was very creamy.
I ordered the English Big Breakfast, available in full or half portion, the breaky comes with 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, 2 hash browns, grilled tomato, mushrooms, and baked beans. Delicious and filling and just what you need on a cold Sunday morning.
My partner ordered the Breakfast Wrap Burrito, which was scrambled eggs, cheese, hashbrown, BBQ sauce and freshly cooked bacon, wrapped up in a toasted tortilla.
If, after your meal you feel like something sweet, Twin Rivers Cafe also has a selection of cakes, slices, and ice cream. So, there is sure to be something for everyone’s taste at this delightful little café.
So, if you find yourself on the way to Barrington Tops, or just would like a nice drive to get something to eat, visit the town of East Gresford and try the Twin Rivers Café. Don’t forget to grab your jar of Burr Cutter Pickles.
Bon Appetit!
