Valley Set For Three Grand Finals

Valley teammates Sam Barry and Tully Winsor may be celebrating another SDCA first grade title if all cricket is called off tomorrow morning.

Local cricket history will be made in Singleton this Saturday morning.

Singleton District Cricket Association treasurer Daniel Storey will announce whether or not this year’s grand finals will go ahead.

“We (as an executive) are exploring every available option right now,” Storey told The Hunter River Times on Wednesday morning.

This weekend Valley and PCH, who met in the SDCA’s most recent grand final at Howe Park in 2019, were due to play at Singleton’s Cook Park 1 this Saturday.

Valley, a powerhouse in recent years, was also scheduled to take on second grade minor premier JPC at Cook 3 as well as in the third grade competition at Cook 5.

All three of these venues were flooded at the time of this newspaper’s publication.

If no games are able to take place this weekend then Valley (first and third grade) and JPC (second grade) will be rewarded with the major premiership.

This would be a shift from last year after the cancellation of the 2019/20 grand final (due to covid-19) when no teams would be awarded with the title.

“The official call will be made on Saturday,” Storey continued.

“We will do the best we can to make it work when assessing our options after the rain stops.

“We could look at Denman hosting the first grade final and Albion Square hosting both of the other two but even then we would have to see how those grounds are looking.”
