“I might have my hand on the tiller, but there’s plenty of people doing the rowing,” PCYC Singleton club manager Dave Andrews said in his acceptance speech after the club was presented with the prestigious Club of the Year award.

The excitement in the room was palpable when Dave Andrews shook the hand of PCYC NSW CEO Ben Hobby on receiving the recognition last week.

Dave accepted the award on behalf of all of the Singleton PCYC, including the PCYC’s life governors, Brad Maher, David Vaughan and Col McDonald, his PCYC mentor, De-Anne Douglas OAM, his team at the PCYC, Lachlan Cronin, Eilish Coffey, Vera Katris, Jenna Barwick and Nick Bailey, and his PCYC youth Zach Lloyd and Joss Davies to name a few.

“It’s really pleasing to receive the PCYC of the Year award,” Dave told The Hunter River Times.

“I was really, really happy when they announced the award, for everyone else, to recognise the work that’s been done over a long time by our life governors, by Vera, Jenna, staff that have been here a long time.

“Having it awarded at the Singleton PCYC also meant that I got the opportunity to share it with the people that made it happen, to have the people that deserve it in the room before me was great.”

PCYC NSW CEO Ben Hobby was impressed by the level of community connection that the Singleton PCYC has in its operations.

“This club has been here for a very long time, what that has meant to the community and what that community participation continues to be after so many years is a big testament to me for what’s been going on for all this time and that’s our people working arm in arm with community together, as one, to fulfil the whole mission that we’re here for and that is to improve the lives of young people and the rising generation,” Ben told The Hunter River Times.

“The Singleton PCYC are exhibiting all the values that we hold dear as an organisation and if they continue to do that, which they will, the only way is up and our vision is that we want to impact the lives of more youth and I think we can do that because you’ve got such a foundation of living the values in this club.”

The Singleton PCYC remains busy with a packed calendar for the remainder of the year, with several programs and events in their calendar, including their ‘Fight Night’ Boxing Competition on February 24 which will be held at the Singleton Civic Centre.
