The community is encouraged to attend one of a number of Vietnam Veterans’ Day services being held across the region.
Singleton’s service commences at 10am with involvement from Singleton High school leaders who will reflect on Operation Babylift. Towards the end of the Vietnam War some 3000 orphans were evacuated to safe destinations in a number of countries with 200 arriving here in Australia.
Meanwhile Muswellbrook will hold their service at the Vietnam memorial, which is part of the Upper Memorial Grove, New England Highway Muswellbrook.
This year Muswellbrook RSL will be completing a plaque dedication to John Flood OAM and Peter Houlahan, both Vietnam Veterans who were the original driving force behind the memorial and continue to work on it now.
The event will start at approx. 3:20pm with the plaque dedication. The service commences at about 3:40pm which is the approximate time of the commencement of the Battle of Long Tan.
The Friends of Merton will host their annual Winter Wonderland fundraiser.
There will be a range of stalls with crafts, plants, jewelry, trash and treasure, cakes and preserves.
There will also be a colouring in competition, devonshire tea, sausage sizzle, raffles, 100 club, and lucky door prizes.
All funds raised will go towards buying special items for Merton Living.

The winner of the $30,000 in prizes will be announced.
The exhibition will be on display from August 21 to October 11, 2025.
Muscle in the Brook features a community event that raises money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Services.
There is a car and bike show and shine, Mullet Masters competition, rocket cover races, market stalls and a variety of food vendors throughout the day. Happy Dayz Duo will be playing throughout the day.
New to the program this year is the wheel toss, with different sized wheels for the age groups from kids through to adults, and prizes up for grabs. Three throws for $5, have as many goes as you would like.
For the kids there is the hot wheels area.
The Penguin Community Garden invites volunteers to join in various gardening activities each weekend.
No experience is required, as there are always people on hand to help guide newcomers and children are welcome.
1st and 3rd Sunday of each month 10am to 12pm.
2nd and 4th Saturday of each month 2 to 4pm
