With the 150th Singleton Show coming up, so too is the time to pick Singleton’s next Young Woman of the Year.

Elinor Bowman was named Singleton Show’s Young Woman of the Year for 2023 before she was named as a Zone 5 finalist and became one of 15 finalists in The Land Sydney Royal AgShows NSW Young Woman competition at this year’s Royal Easter Show.

As a young girl, Elinor watched the competition and knew that one day she wanted to enter.

“I saw the entrants and winners over the years, and they were always so intelligent, kind, graceful and powerful,” Elinor said.

“I loved that there was no particular mould, everyone had such different backgrounds, skills and life experience and I thought that growing up, one day I would like to be that person that young women and girls in Singleton would look up to.”

Rather than the Young Woman competition, Elinor prefers to call it a program.

“Throughout my whole experience it has been more like a leadership program than a competition.

“The opportunities that we had to network, to learn from different panels, learn from each other, get involved and see behind the scenes of the Royal Easter Show is just unmatched and not an opportunity you would get otherwise unless you had gone through that program.

“You’re exposed to some incredible movers and shakers across agriculture and hear such incredible stories from other entrants across the program.”

Elinor also mentioned the skills she has gained that are transferrable to all aspects of life.

“There’s opportunities to practice your public speaking skills, interview techniques, how to introduce yourself to people and answer tricky questions, as well as the opportunity to connect with your community more.”

If you are a young woman or know a young woman between the ages of 18 and 26 that would be perfect for this opportunity, you can email N.A.A secretary Roslyn Shearer at se*******@si***********.com for more information.
