Too often, children in the foster care system aren’t offered the dignity of having their own belongings.
Singleton Heights Active Oosh is trying to change that by being a collection point for Hope In A Suitcase.
Hope In A Suitcase is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers with a mission to provide children entering foster care or out-of-home care with a suitcase filled with new essential items that they can call their own.
“Through this simple act, Hope In A Suitcase aims to deliver a message of hope, reminding these children that they are valued, worthy and supported by their community,” Singleton Heights Active Oosh service manager Kylie Jamieson said.
Suitcases are filled with essential items such as toiletries, underwear, a set of pyjamas and a change of clothing, plus a toy or recreational item to provide a distraction for the children.
Anyone is welcome to donate a few new items or to fill a suitcase of new items if they are able.
Kylie shared that while there are many young children in foster care that people may want to donate items for, she would like to encourage people to consider donating items for the older children that are 12 years old and up.
If you would like to make a difference to a young person’s life, take your donations to Singleton Heights Active Oosh before November 29 between the hours of 6am to 9:30am and 2pm to 6pm.
