Love for Legacy
Muswellbrook Division of Newcastle Legacy own six units that they rent to Legacy widows at a much-reduced rate.
The only problem is the four units in Muswellbrook and two in Denman were built in the 1960s and maintenance is an ongoing issue.
When one of the units needed a kitchen upgrade, the group was thrilled when Bunnings came to the party with a $1500 donation towards the project.
Branch president Dennis Sheehan said the donation was greatly appreciated with their Legacy widow tenant thrilled with the final result.
The donation was arranged by Vicki Griffin of Bunnings Singleton after being approached by Phillip Bowcock of the Support Team of Legacy Club Services on behalf of Muswellbrook Legacy Division.
“To assist Muswellbrook Legatees erect the flat pack kitchen, Ian Graham the Singleton Bunnings Store Kitchen Expert provided brilliant service by way of advice backed by expertise and background knowledge of kitchen design and layout,” Mr Sheehan said.
A local builder, Mark Truman and volunteer Tony O’Neill donated a week of their time and expertise in assembly and completion of the kitchen including the finishing touches to a new floating floor.
Mr Sheehan said the ongoing support of the Legacy widows and three children they care for, continued to place pressure on the ongoing funds and covid restrictions didn’t help with the recent fund-raising campaign down 75 per cent of the previous year’s tally.
Newcastle Legacy Muswellbrook Division looks after the welfare of 48 elderly widows of mainly WW2 veterans, a young widow with school aged children and three disabled children of deceased veterans, who are now adults. All of these beneficiaries of Legacy live in the towns of Muswellbrook, Denman and nearby localities.
“The support we give to these beneficiaries consists of financial assistance from funds raised locally, advice and administrative support by Legatees and physical assistance with maintenance tasks, undertaken by Legatees and volunteers when needed,” Mr Sheehan said.
