New project for Indigenous Plants for Health
Funds from the MACHEnergy Mount Pleasant have paved the way for a new project for Indigenous Plants for Health.
The project aims to raise awareness about the use of local natives by creating plant cards that identify various plants found throughout the Hunter, outlining their use and encouraging that use.
Vice president Pat Collins from Muswellbrook said the cards would be used as a teaching tool that can be used in schools and for individuals.
“The information can be shared in yarning circles as well, it is just about having the information more widely known,” Pat said.
“Indigenous names for the plants are already documented but we want to go that step further and explain their uses, how the elders used it, medicinal uses, that sort of thing,” she said.
