Crowd limit for Remembrance Day

BY ALEX TIGANI

This year’s Remembrance Day ceremony at Singleton’s Burdekin Park will be limited to 100 people.

Singleton RSL Subbranch president Mark Cederblad and vice president Glenn Mount have declared the announcement as a success.

“We haven’t been able to hold any services at all and then we were able to hold 20 which was just a logistic nightmare,” Mr Mount explained.

“Then it went to 50 and the only way we could do that was by invitation only.”

“A lot of the spouses couldn’t come along.”

The immediate service area will be fenced off while those attending the service will have names and contact details recorded on entry (there will be one entry point).

“We missed out on everything for Anzac Day, some of us were required to come down here and ask people not to gather,” he continued.

“It was tough to ask them to move on.”

“We are the custodians of the memorial, so we all feel very strongly about it,” Mr Cederblad added.

“We have been trying to get this done for 13 years so we have finally achieved that goal and the work is underway.”

Any persons feeling unwell will be asked not to attend while temperature checks will be taken on entry.
