Thoroughbreds Aim For Four On The Trot
All roads lead to Scone this Sunday when the Thoroughbreds’ first grade side play host to Aberdeen.
Scone playing coach Justin Apthorpe will hope to make it four wins in a row ahead of next week’s bye.
“Hopefully it is all hands-on deck this weekend,” Apthorpe told The Hunter River Times.
“We have a few blokes that will be backing up after night shift but then again that’s no excuse.
“That’s something we will have to deal with all year, that is not going to go away.”
The Thoroughbreds suffered an upset 23-12 defeat to Singleton in Round 2 before responding with three large wins over Aberdeen (54-10), Muswellbrook (48-6) and Denman (44-4).
They now sit on top of the ladder by percentage.
“Aberdeen and Scone is always a tough game and if I was an outsider looking in I would take no notice of our last game,” he added.
“We got beaten the week before and turned up the week after ready to play for 80 minutes.
“Aberdeen will be tough with Swadling up front and Hoogerwerf and blokes like that.”
MEANWHILE the Muswellbrook Rams will be aiming to end their three-year drought in the first-grade competition when they play host to fourth placed Denman on Saturday.

FIRST GRADE: Muswellbrook vs. Denman (3:20pm – Saturday, June 5) and Scone vs. Aberdeen (2pm – Sunday, June 6).
RESERVE GRADE: Muswellbrook vs. Merriwa (2pm – Saturday, June 5), Murrurundi vs. Denman (3pm – Saturday, June 5), Singleton vs. Greta Branxton and Scone vs. Aberdeen (12:30pm – Sunday, June 6).
U18: Scone vs. Aberdeen(11:20am – Sunday, June 6) and Singleton (Bye).
LADIES LEAGUE TAG: Murrurundi vs. Denman (2pm – Saturday, June 5), Scone vs. Aberdeen (10:20am – Sunday, June 6) and Singleton vs. Merriwa (11:30am – Sunday, June 6).
