Duggan celebrates title with proud daughter

Scone Thoroughbreds’ legend Ross Duggan has cherished countless memories at his home ground.
In 1992 he celebrated back-to-back under-18 premierships as captain before going on to star in five successful first grade premiership teams between 1994 and 2003.
Since then, he has also coached many successful junior line-ups to glory including this year’s under-16 girls tag side.
Screams of jubilation echoed across Scone Park on Friday, August 12 when Duggan’s side celebrated a dominant 38-6 win over Denman.
“Today I got to coach my youngest daughter and to share the win with her and her friends is right up there with a lot of great memories I have cherished over the years,” he said post-match.
“We trained hard, we practised and practised, we were ruthless and relentless, we played with passion and commitment, and we never gave our opponents an inch or an opportunity.”
“Thank you to all girls for putting up with me, I’m sure my wife and daughter are glad it’s over.”
Sarah Shankley, one of three Scone players who also received a Ladies League Tag call up in 2022, was named as the best player in the grand final before Makenzi Nelson was called up to receive the shield as winning captain.
The final premiership hug shared by Ross and his tearful daughter Eliza made for the highlight of the evening.
“It means everything, he has put in so much hard work over the past two years to get us here and I’m really proud,” Eliza added.
