A once in a generation team

Another premiership cup was added to the Singleton Roosters’ cabinet on Sunday.

Singleton took out the AFL Hunter Central Coast’s Youth Girls 15 premiership with a 6.3 (39) to 1.0 (6) grand final win over Cardiff at Feighan Oval.

The undefeated line-up had not played the Hawks since their 10.0 (60) to 2.0 (12) win in Round 2 (a 126-day gap) yet still entered the match as the favourite thanks to a convincing 14.15 (99) to 0.1 (1) semi final win against Terrigal Avoca.

“This has been a once in a generation team,” proud coach Alex Tigani explained.

“It is the second time this group has gone undefeated and the third time they have finished on top but we have also had four floods and a lockdown since our last premiership so the resilience of this squad should also be recognised.”

A total of 16 members of the side balanced their season with representative duties for the undefeated Hunter Country team while Alex Neyland, Molly Thomas, Maddison Marsh, Ella Radmacher, Maegan Downes and Ella McLeod also travelled to Albury in May for the NSW All Schools Championships.

After three seasons the Winter family cousins Georgia Dunn and Molly Thomas have still not played in a losing team together.

Neyland returned to Albury in July to represent the NSW line-up at national level and added a best on ground medal to her CV on Sunday.

“Her teammates also sung happy birthday for her moments after she was declared as the winner,” Tigani added.

Forwards Ella Radmacher and Milly Morgan finished with two goals with singles to Ella McLeod and Sienna Harley while defender Milla Hauville, also a leader with the Singleton Strikers, accepted the premiership cup as winning captain.

Sienna Harley (left) and Elise Kerr (in action) were two of the 12 new members to Singleton’s premiership club.

“This premiership was won by all 27 listed players, not just the 22 on grand final day,” Tigani concluded.

“A special thanks to all of our club officials, our team manager Amanda Clydsdale and my assistant coach Daltyn McCartney for all your tireless efforts in 2022.”
