Eagles eye two grand final victories

Hamish McTaggart can’t recall the last time two senior Muswellbrook Eagles teams made the grand final on the same weekend.

Yet the dream has become a reality for the men from Victoria Park.

“This is a great achievement for the teams and there is much enthusiasm around the club,” Muswellbrook Eagles coach Hamish McTaggart.

The Eagles will commence their campaign when battling off against Cooks Hill in this evening’s Friday Night All Age grand final at 6pm. The season decider will take place at East Maitland’s Fieldsend Oval 1.

The Eagles trailed the Wolves 1-0 at the main break when they hosted last Friday’s preliminary final.

Thankfully, a Clinton Lanesbury double on the northern end secured a memorable 2-1 win at Victoria Park.

“Clinton’s second goal was a cracker with about 10 minutes to go,” McTaggart explained.

The Eagles’ Saturday All Age side will then play West Wallsend in their grand final to be held at Branxton.

Cooks Hill prevailed against Gresford in the earlier match however disciplinary issues may have hindered the grand final bound squad’s player availability ahead of tonight’s match.

MEANWHILE the Muswellbrook Eagles’ Saturday All Age side will hope to secure the minor and major premiership double when taking on West Wallsend in this Saturday’s grand final at Branxton’s Miller Park. The clash will commence at 1pm.

The Eagles have played the Bluebells twice in season 2022, most recently celebrating a 5-1 win in Round 8 at Gregory Park.

“We have had great success over West Wallsend but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves,” he concluded.
