Nothing to lose

Singleton Greyhound Layton Amidy added another highlight to his Pirtek Park career with the Wambo Wolves in 2019.
The Wolves captured their first tournament title with an upset win over the Bengalla Badgers in the final.
Yet he has urged supporters not to cast too much spotlight on the line-up following the departures of Cessnock Goannas Riley and Joel Brown as well as former Penrith Panther Ryan Walker who was the Wolves’ player of the match.
This came one month after Walker celebrated a Newcastle Rugby League premiership for Western Suburbs against the Brown brothers.
“We stuck it out and just stayed in the game as long as we could in that final but this year is a bit of a rebuild for us,” Amidy told The Hunter River Times.
“We have had a lot of redundancies since the last tournament but we will see how we go.
“It is all about getting out there and getting a bit of money for the helicopter and having fun.”
The recent 26-20 preliminary final loss for the Cessnock Goannas has enabled the availability of Kori Barber who recently played his 150th first grade match.
“I think we are one of the few underground teams in the competition, so we run a lot lighter than some of the big ones,” he concluded.
“We still have a few Newcastle Rugby League players amongst our ranks and throw a few old blokes like myself to fill in the numbers.”
