Sunday morning final for Pokolbin

BY ALEX TIGANI

The Pokolbin Reds are still in this year’s premiership race.

However, there is a catch.

The Hunter Rugby finals (for both Premier and Divisional competitions) were delayed by a week due to last weekend’s washout.

As a result, the Pokolbin Reds will now play off against Cooks Hill in this Sunday’s elimination final to be held at Newcastle’s No.2 Sportsground at 10am.

“We may have a couple of plays who can’t play this Sunday and, what is more worrying, is we don’t know the availability of players for grand final day which has now gone from September 17 to September 24,” Pokolbin Reds co-coach Glenn Buttrey explained.

If successful, the Reds will play the loser of this Saturday’s clash between Medowie and Griffins.

“Our players are entering the finals with impressive form and Brady Hay has been a revelation since moving into the centres,” he concluded.

Unfortunately, the under-10 team faced a 28-0 defeat to Merewether at Townson Oval before the under-16 side were out strengthened by Nelson Bay 17-5.
