President Hixon prepares for season 2023

Dylan Hixon describes the Singleton Roosters as his home away from home.

Therefore when the local AFL club was seeking a senior president at the dying stages of its AGM last month, he was encouraged to put his hand up for the role.

Affectionally known as ‘Bull’ to those within the walls of the club, he hopes to promote the club’s name in the community.

“The Singleton Roosters for me is the family away from family, I love the people and the club,” Hixon told The Hunter River Times.

“I would like to thank everyone that has voted for me and for the kind words, I’m ready to take this year by the horns.”

Hixon first called Singleton home in 2013 after moving from Central Queensland.

Within a year, he was invited to play for the club by (then) under-17 coach Steph Nester. By year’s end he already had a taste of senior footy and the rest is history.

On Wednesday evening, Hixon confirmed the appointment of Tim Hare as the club’s men’s coach at the club’s first committee meeting while outgoing senior president Nadene McBride will continue to coach the Roosterettes in the women’s competition.

Singleton Rooster Dylan Hixon has taken on the role of senior club president. He proudly stands before Jackson Channon, Owen Trickey, Jed Ellis-Cluff, Kyah McBride, Kane Symons, Declan Trickey and Paris Brumby.

“My plans for 2023 are to get us back in prime form in both men’s and women’s football while also bringing back our reserve grade side and also build our junior levels up,” Hixon continued.

“I know what it’s like to be young and just want to play football, even though I came from a rugby league background I love AFL more.”

The new look committee also features Jackson Channon (vice president), Melanie Hill (secretary), Kustiani Tuckerman (treasurer), Rebekah Norman, Karen Davey and Sarah Dunn.

The club is desperately seeking a junior vice president after a successful 2022 season which saw 105 young talents represent the club.

“Finding a junior vice president is our main priority at this point in time,” Hixon concluded.

“We always love people coming forward and helping out the club so there are other roles as well.

“Our club is in its 40th year of being established and we also are looking to celebrate that milestone as well as our 2010 and 2012 premiership sides and our team of the decade.

President Hixon’s priorities for 2023

  • Finding a junior vice president.
  • Building a playing list which will enable the return of a reserve grade team.
  • Welcoming new players of all ages to the sport.
  • Organising a reunion for the club’s 2010 and 2012 premiership teams.
