Rumbel qualifies for Brisbane

The lockdown era has well and truly come to an end for junior athletics talents in the Muswellbrook and Singleton area.

Muswellbrook South Public School’s Riley Rumbel collected four medals from his five events at the PSSA State Athletics Championships on October 19-20.

RILEY’S RESULTS:

1st – Multi Class Senior Boys Shot Put

2nd – Multi Class Senior Boys 100m

2nd – Multi Class Senior Boys 200m

2nd – Multi Class Senior Boys Discus

4th – Multi Class Senior Boys Long Jump.

He is now off to the Australian Track & Field Championships which will be held from November 17-21 in Brisbane.

A GoFundMe page was set up shortly after the event for Riley who is one of 11 siblings and, to the credit of the greater community, a total of $4,144 has been raised to date.

Muswellbrook Public School’s relay team featured Melandri Botha, Lexie Badiour, Ruby Gallen and Kiahni Vero.

Muswellbrook Public School’s Kiahni Vero officially finished 6th place in the 9 Girls 100m final with a time of 14.96 seconds.

She finished behind Terrey Hills’ Havana Gray (14.57), Moriah College’s Madison Cohen (14.87), Shelley’s Imogen Wynne (14.94), Calare’s Lara Hooper (14.94) and St Patrick’s Sutherland Lana Bozic (14.95).

She also featured in her school’s junior relay team which finished sixth in the heat and 33rd overall.

Singleton’s Quin Neyland (St Catherine’s Catholic College) recorded the fastest time for the Upper Hunter with a time of 14.34 in the 11 Girls 100m final. She finished 23rd overall.
