Undefeated Rams all set for tonight’s final

All roads lead to Olympic Park this evening when the Muswellbrook Rams play host to the Merriwa Magpies in the Group 21 women’s tackle competition.

The competition made its return after a short hiatus this year and the Rams, coached by club legend Gary ‘Bomber’ Jones, have proven to be the yardstick.

The undefeated line-up did not concede a single point in their first three outings when celebrating convincing wins against Murrurundi (56-0), Greta-Branxton (36-0) and Singleton Greyhounds (54-0).

Before a home crowd they proved a class above Aberdeen with a 48-6 win in a nine-aside clash due to the Tigers’ lack of numbers in Round 5.

Then proved a class above Magpies with a 22-0 victory on Friday.

“A win would be awesome, for a lot of these girls it’s their first taste of senior footy so for them to step up against older girls and be as dominant as they have it’s a credit to them,” Muswellbrook Rams senior president Hayden Fox explained.

“Their talent is definitely being recognised around the women’s rugby league with quite a number of them earning call ups to the Knights teams for the respective ages.”

Fox has enjoyed the competition as the Rams’ league safe. It has been a chance to reunite with Jones who was his under-18 premiership coach.

“The fact he gets to coach a side that’s led by his two highly talented daughters is a pretty cool thing in itself,” Fox concluded.
