Sue Gilroy won’t stand

STATEMENT FROM SUE GILROY –

I wish to officially announce that I will not be running as a candidate at the upcoming State Government Election in March.

I have resigned from the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party as of yesterday in line with the decision to resign by member for Barwon, Roy Butler, and member for Orange, Phil Donato at the party’s annual general meeting at the weekend.

They had attempted to change the executive leadership but failed, prompting their resignation.  Both men will stand as independents.

For myself, standing as an independent is not something I can consider.  To put it bluntly, I cannot afford to run independently. To say I am gutted is an understatement.  I firmly believe the Party was headed in the right direction, it is a party that I believed really embraced regional NSW and stood up for grassroots issues, we were on the precipice of something really great but the current leadership of the party is failing to recognise what the broader community is thinking and experiencing.

They are not living the purpose and values of the party and I can’t support that.

It has not been an easy decision, given we are in the middle of a campaign, but a decision made on the basis of my own values.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family and friends and the broader community for their support and look forward to continuing to advocate for the Upper Hunter however best I can.
