Imogen Is One to Watch and Love

The 2023 Tamworth Country Music Festival was one to remember for Muswellbrook’s Imogen Hall who placed second in The Golden Gig competition.

“I’m absolutely so humbled that I placed second even though there was a bunch of different, amazing artists,” Imogen told The Hunter River Times.

“We had a couple of heat rounds, during the whole entire week they had heats where more than 100 people came in and they played their two songs and judges scored them.

“Then it came time for the final and they called me and said I made the top five and I was really nervous because I knew a lot of the people I was up against, there was a friend or two, and I was like, oh, they’ve got it in the bag.”

Second place was more than this young performer ever anticipated.

Other highlights for the festival for Imogen include her gig at The Welders Dog, jumping on stage with mentor and friend Amber Lawrence, joining some young friends while they busked and catching up with friends from across the country.

“I had a bit more of a chilled at Tamworth this year just so I could relax and enjoy the festival which I haven’t done since my first year going,” she said a few days after getting home.

The festival experience has inspired the Muswellbrook teenager so much that there are two new songs in the works that Imogen hopes to share at upcoming gigs, but it won’t be all fun and gigs in 2023.

“I’m gonna have a bit of a break, get settled back into school because I’m in the old year 12 now, so I’ve got to knuckle down and actually do my schoolwork for once,” she shared with a laugh.

“I think I will be going on a bit of a break (from music) for a couple of weeks, just to sort of settle in back into reality.”
