Dagg celebrates 16-0 win for Newcastle Olympic

Elodie Dagg will enter this week’s clash against Maitland with confidence.

The former Branxton Wildcats’ junior kick-started her tenure with Newcastle Olympic on Sunday by capturing a remarkable 16-0 win over former club Warners Bay.

Sophie McDonald, who also crossed over from the Panthers, scored all of her seven goals in the first half to secure a 9-0 lead at the break.

“We had a really good pre-season and everyone has been getting along pretty well,” Dagg told The Hunter River Times.

The star midfielder, who claimed the league’s MVP award in 2021, crossed over from Warners Bay over the summer after captaining the club to a 4-2 grand final win over Olympic.

However Dagg did not know what to expect in the lead up to the season opener after all but one player departed from the club at both senior and reserve level.

Prior to her decorated stint at Warners Bay, she also represented the Central Coast Mariners’ Sydney NPL line-up and Adamstown where she celebrated a minor premiership in her first season.

Now she hopes to add another premiership double to her impressive football CV in her new colours.

“Everyone associate’s Olympic with really good football and a strong club mentality,” she concluded.

“Individual awards are amazing, very humbling and obviously great to receive but I want to do my very best for the team as we consistently push ourselves.”

Newcastle Olympic will play their first home game against the fifth placed Maitland this Saturday at 4pm before travelling to Taree to play seventh placed Mid Coast.
