Eventful Week at Rose Point Park

Two Olympic greats joined Labor candidate Peree Watson in Singleton last week.

Dan Repacholi (Federal Member for Hunter) reunited with Liesl Tesch (Member for Gosford) in the midst of the Labor candidate’s door-knocking campaign in Singleton on Tuesday, February 28.

Tesch, who has been the member for Gosford since the seat’s 2017 by-election, has represented Australia in seven Paralympics.

From 1992-2008 she was a member of Australia’s women’s wheelchair basketball team, collecting silver medals in Sydney (2000), Athens (2004) and a bronze in Beijing (2008).

She then won back-to-back gold medals in the Mixed Two Person Sailing SKUD18 with Daniel Fitzgibbon in London (2012) and Rio (2016).

Repacholi has also represented Australia in pistol shooting from 2004-2021, finishing sixth in the mixed 10m Air Pistol event at the recent Tokyo Olympics.

He is undecided whether he will take part in Paris next year, becoming just the fifth Australian man to participate in six Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, Mr Repacholi joined local mayors Sue Moore (Singleton) and Steve Reynolds (Muswellbrook) to announce $3.7 million to help repair sports facilities damaged by last year’s floods.

Dan Repacholi returned to Rose Point Park on Friday to announce $3.7 million to help repair sports facilities damaged by last year’s floods.

Singleton Council will receive $1.1million to repair the Rose Point Park netball courts and $485,000 to upgrade the Singleton Showground. Muswellbrook Shire Council will receive $970,000 for resilience works at Karoola Park.

“This is great news for Councils who have put in applications for funding through the Essential Community Sport Assets Program under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements,” Mr Repacholi said.
