Team Australia prepares for Florida

Here’s a trivia question.

Which Singleton based group will be representing Australia in Florida this April?

The correct answer is the TK Collaborations’ representative cheer team who will compete in the 2023 Cheerleading World Championships.

Colloquially known as the Worlds, each year 9,000 athletes from over 40 countries travel to Orlando for the global event which was first held in 2004.

To understand the significance of this qualification it is important to note that the International Cheering Union has 117 member nations.

This is 13 more than the International Cricket Council and more than twice the amount listed in the International Ice Hockey Federation.

Mentors Terri Vollmer and Kelsie Hogan admit that this is the opportunity of the lifetime for their ten member cheer team.

“We wanted to do this because it is a phenomenal opportunity for the girls,” Vollmer told The Hunter River Times.

“No one else around this area gets do anything of this calibre especially in dance which was something that we really wanted to do for the girls.”

The co-coaches initially submitted a video to the Australian Cheer Union who confirmed the group’s qualification by email.

“When we read the email out there was no cheering or smiling, they were all in shock,” she added.

The group will be holding a fundraising BBQ at the Singleton Bunnings on Saturday, March 25 before their final showcase will be held in Sydney on Sunday, April 2.
