Crowds braved the heat on the weekend to enjoy one of the regions premier events, the Upper Hunter Show.

From cattle and horses, to the woodchop and strongman events, everyone was doing their best to put on a great show.

Second year apprentice mechanic Chanelle Wilson was sashed as the Upper Hunter Young Woman of the Year for 2023.

“I just thought I’d give it a go, my mum mentioned it to me and I thought if I don’t win that’s okay, but if I do win that’s great,” she said of the decision to step up, with hopes of now being able to help empower other women to give things a go.

The Mangoola Young Woman of the Year competition is about identifying strong females within the community to act as a spokesperson for the Upper Hunter Show.

The Muswellbrook RSL Teen Young Woman of the Year competition saw five young ladies step up, with Mikayla Croft taking out the close competition and Saige Polzin-Biddle named runner up.

Show president Keith Googe commended the volunteers who year-on-year pull off the amazing event, and he was pleased to share at the official opening that there have been younger community members stepping up to help continue the legacy that is the Upper Hunter Show for years to come.
