Roosters ready for Muswellbrook

BY ALEX TIGANI

The Singleton Roosters will aim for a three-peat this Saturday.

After a gruelling pre-season at Rose Point Park, the AFL Hunter Central Coast side will play host to the Muswellbrook Cats in the annual Nathan Duncan Shield trial match at 2pm.

The Roosters celebrated a convincing win over the Cats in 2021 after the previous year’s clash was cancelled due to the covid lockdown.

Muswellbrook’s grand final bound line-up looked to have the edge over the Roosters in last year’s wet weather trial, held at Weeraman Field, before a late goal secured the Roosters’ low scoring 2.9 (21) to 2.6 (18) win.

Incoming Singleton coach Tim Hare admits he will not have his strongest midfield available this Saturday but still looks forward to seeing a long list of returning Roosters.

MEANWHILE the Maitland Saints are all set for season 2023 after celebrating two narrow trial match victories over the Sawtell Toormina Saints and The Entrance Bateau Bay Blues.
