Upper Hunter Election Count Far from Over

While the Labor Party has won the NSW State Election, National’s Dave Layzell is in the lead for the our local seat of Upper Hunter but with 21,110 votes from early voting centres still to be counted, the result is far from decided.

Some 25,960 people attending voting venues yesterday and these figures were finalised last night after counting ceased at 10:30pm.

Dave Layzell is currently in the lead with 9,485 votes ahead of Labor’s Peree Watson on 7,878. Shooters, Fishers and Farmers James White recorded 3,026 votes, independent Dale McNamara 2336, Greens Tony Lonergan on 1612, Legalise Cannabis Party Tom Lillicrap on 1499 and Sustainable Australia Callum Blair on 433. There were almost 1000 informal votes cast yesterday.

In addition to the early voting count, only 1442 of the 4,984 postal votes have been returned and these also needed to be added to the tally.

Counting continues this week.
