Glory for Gray in Queensland

Rylan Gray has celebrated his maiden win in the Battery World Aussie Race Cars at Queensland Raceway on the weekend.

It was a slow but consistent start to the weekend, with two fifth placings in races on Saturday.

On Sunday morning the team made the decision to do an eleventh-hour engine change before the third race, which provided the boost they were looking for until Gray made an error late in the race dropping him back to ninth.

Starting seventh in the final race meant there was work to be done, but by lap five of 12 Gray was in the lead – pulling away a more than five second gap to second by the end of the race.

The Denman teen walked away with second for the weekend and with top rookie honours.

This will be a handy confidence boost going into the final round of the Toyota Gazoo Racing New Zealand 86’s series this weekend, where he is sitting sixth outright in the series and is the top rookie.
