Don’t Knock the Nock

The Cessnock Goannas enter this weekend’s bye with a 6-0 record in the Newcastle Rugby League Denton Engineering Cup first grade competition.

The Goannas, who suffered a preliminary final defeat in 2022, catered for last year’s grand finalist Macquarie Scorpions 40-30 before celebrating an emphatic 20-12 win over the reigning premier Maitland on Saturday.

Singleton duo Will Nieuwenhuise and James Bradley were the Pickers’ sole try scorers on the day.

Prior to the challenging fortnight the Goannas opened the season with victories over South Newcastle (52-12), Northern Hawks (34-22), Kurri Kurri (42-16) and Western Suburbs (44-20).

The Goannas will return home for their Round 8 clash against the eighth placed Lakes United on Saturday, May 20.
