Celebrating Pride on the Lake

A Celebration if inclusivity is the aim for an event at the end of the month at Lake Liddell Recreation Area.

On Saturday June 24 BHP Mt Arthur, AGL and Theiss have come together to put on Pride on the Lake.

“The day is going to be free to anyone to attend, it will include music, some dance, it’ll include market stalls, there’ll be a free barbecue on the day and lots of fun activities from GJ’s by the Lake,” Gabriela Love, chair of the Inclusion and Diversity Council at Mt Arthur shared.

“Bring a picnic rug and a picnic if you like and sit down and enjoy the full festival atmosphere for the day.”

The day is about inclusion across the board, so there will be things like a silent disco for visitors with sensory concerns, as well as celebrating the LGBT+ community during Pride Month.

“It was actually the brainchild of the Shine Committee at AGL, the chair of that committee approached BHP to ask if we’d like to collaborate on something, a community event like this, and we thought it was so aligned with our objectives that we were happy to jump on board,” Gabriela explained.

“At BHP and Mt Arthur we are striving towards creating an inclusive workplace and we’re absolutely committed to celebrating events that acknowledge LGBT plus community. And so we took the opportunity to jump on board and collaborate with our other sponsors to put on a community event that is family orientated and allows everyone to come along be themselves.”

Pride on the Lake will run from 10am to 2pm, with a whole range of free activities for the whole family to get involved with.
