Harry Dominates at World Stars of Golf

Competing at a national and international level in your sport is one thing but when you are doing it successfully as a 12 year old it is nothing short of outstanding.

Greta’s Harry Preece has just returned from the World Stars of Golf in Las Vegas, taking out the title.

Harry won the 11-12 years boys age division kicking off the first day of the three day tournament six under par shooting 66 and then 74 and 71 finishing five under par to win by one shot.

There were players from 17 countries competing. His invite is thanks to his ongoing performance including an earlier win in this event as a six year old.

While in the United States, Harry also played in the IMG Junior Worlds in San Diego and his performance in this tournament attracted attention and he has been invited to return to the States in September, just one of 24 players to compete.  Harry is the only player outside America to be invited and to say he is excited is an understatement.

When he isn’t at St Philip’s Christian College Cessnock attending to his school responsibilities, you will find him on the golf course playing or practising under the watchful eye of The Vintage Golf Course coach, Richard Mercer.  Richard has been guiding Harry’s golf since he was five years of age.

“We made that decision consciously, I didn’t want to coach Harry, I want to be his dad and for him to be able to come to me. If he ever decides he doesn’t want to play, that is fine by me but he just loves it,” Justin said.

In coming weeks Harry will play in the Jack Newton Junior Masters at Shelley Beach and the Muswellbrook Regional Championships.

Harry’s proud father, Justin, said it would be reasonable to estimate they spend at least 20 weekends away from home to take part in tournaments but the results are speaking for themselves.
