Bikes on Show for a Worthy Cause
The Denman Charity Bike Show hopes to raise enough money to make the dream of a courtyard in Denman Hospital’s palliative care unit reality.
To meet this goal, event organiser Andrew Groeneveld shared they have been selling raffle tickets for weeks and are hoping for a good roll up of bikes on Saturday, October 14 at the Grapevine Motel.
“It’s a bunch of show-offs who want to show off their bikes, and it is for a good cause because it is a non-profit hospital,” he said with a laugh.
“We start at 10 o’clock, the bike register is roll up and put a number on your bike, and then come fill out your registration form and pay your money.”
Throughout the day judges will review the entries and award 16 trophies across a range of classes including a best meerkat award for the people who sit up as they ride through town.
There are kids and women’s categories, and a people’s choice that gives attendees a chance to show their appreciation for those on display.
Around 65 bikes entered last year, and it is hoped that the weather is on the organisers’ side this year to get more along for the show.
The Denman Bike Show will be from 10am to 2pm at the Grapevine Motel, behind the Denman Hotel, on Saturday, October 14. Entry is $10 per bike and there will be a range of raffles running on the day with all proceeds going to the Denman Hospital Auxiliary.
