Warbirds to Mark 40 Years with Spectacular Event

Warbirds Over Scone will be more than a great family day out, it will be a nod to the significant role the aircraft, and associated personnel, have played throughout Australian history.

Upper Hunter Shire Council’s Senior Creative Events, Facilities and Tourism Coordinator, Bek Durietz shared that this will be a celebration marking 40 years since the first Australian Warbirds Airshow  – right here in Scone.

Organisers have worked hard to replicate that original program, and with the support of the Australian Air Force, there will be F35’s taking part in a heritage flight, alongside a Mustang and Kitty Hawk.

“One of the really exciting things about this event, is that it’s a bit of a walk back through history,” Bek said.

“We’re taking people back to the bygone era of Warbirds, and acknowledging that connection to Hunter Warbirds as an aviation attraction, and the importance of preserving its history.”

Hunter Warbirds has been working hard to share its rich aviation history with people from the Hunter and beyond, including the amazing legacy of Col Pay.

In addition to the line-up of iconic aircraft, there will be an awe inspiring aerobatics display from Paul Bennet’s famed Sky Aces – a star attraction of any airshow – as well as plenty more to see and do on the ground.

The Airtime Arcade will feature a huge array of exciting activities for our junior aviators, and a range of market stalls and food vans will be set up across both days, including an international food market.

Warbirds Over Scone 2024 is proudly presented by Bengalla, in association with Upper Hunter Shire Council, and supported by Aero Refuellers, Husky Demolitions, Vintage Fighter Restorations, Pays Aviation, and Hunter Fighter Collection. It is produced by Paul Bennet Airshows, with thanks to Royal Australian Air Force.

Weather permitting, the program across both Saturday and Sunday will be similar, but if there is particular elements you don’t want to miss, then make sure you check out www.warbirdsoverscone.com.au or call the Scone Visitor Information Centre on 02 6540 1300.
