Roosters Celebrate their First Game Under Lights

Singleton AFL Roosters ran onto their Cook Park Field under lights for the first time earlier this month and all lapped up the exciting new atmosphere.

“It was great to experience, we had lots of great feedback from the community and some even said they would rather the night games,” club president Dylan Hixon said.

It was a big day for the Roosters as they hosted the annual 2024 Bush to Beach pre-season trial games with teams coming from the Hunter Central Coast competition to take part.

“The trial matches are a great way to start the season, it gives everyone a chance to run onto the field, people who might be new to the sport or haven’t played in a while to have a taste of the game before the season officially starts,” Dylan said.

All games were fiercely contested with the mens playing under lights at the 6:30pm timeslot with the locals defeating Tamworth by 20 points

The competition proper kicks off on the first weekend in April with both the Singleton senior mens and womens side taking on Warners Bay at Warners Bay.

Singleton Roosters will field an under 9s, two under 11s, under 13s and an under 17s youth girls side in addition to the senior mens and womens teams.

“We usually field an under 15s and under 17s boys side but unfortunately our numbers were down and these players are now in teams at Maitland and Cardiff.

“We have put a lot of hard work into building up the club, we are well known but it is our club structure that stands out, there is a very strong family-like bond between the members which is very special,” he said.
