It’s Gold, Gold, Gold for Huggins Herculean Effort

Only a month after achieving four golds at a State level, Muswellbrook’s Tim Huggins has thrown it out of the park at the Australian Masters Athletics National Track and Field Championships in Tasmania.

He entered four events and came away with three gold and a silver after a sensational performance over the Easter weekend.

It kicked off with a personal best in hammer throw on Friday morning, with a distance of 37.57 meters for the gold, and a few hours later a second gold in shotput with a distance of 12.68 meters.

“I set a PB in discus as well, and got gold, and I actually won by seven meters,” Tim shared of his first event on a mild Saturday morning.

“It is more of a reflection of the competition I had, but I am still happy with it as I am not used to throwing that early in the morning either, I was up early to get awake and warmed up and it all paid off.”

After the 8am first event, it was a long wait until javelin at around 4.30pm in the afternoon and with an existing injury still plaguing his run, Tim threw a 38.99 which was good enough for silver.

“I’m happy with the results, to defend the three titles that I got last year but I am hungry and I know I can be better,” he told The Hunter River Times.

“I’ll be better in all those next year, I know I will be throwing further.

“I’m only in my second season back and I am watching my techniques and thinking ‘I can fix that there’, I could find meters with some practice.”

Not one to look at medals on the shelf and be satisfied, Tim will be breaking down his technique and working to build up strength and speed for the next competition.
