No Muswellbrook Cup but a Great Day of Cup Charity Golf
A good crowd of golfers turned out for the annual Muswellbrook Race Club Charity Golf Day last week with Blackroo Community Indigenous Corporation as the charity partner.
Teams braved some drizzle on Thursday for 18 rounds at Muswellbrook Golf Course in what is the traditional precursor to the Muswellbrook Gold Cup.
Unfortunately the weather pelted down on Friday forcing the Muswellbrook Cup race itself to be held in Newcastle on the Saturday.
Before players teed off De-anne Douglas from Blackroo shared a bit about the organisation and what they do, specifically the New Beginnings program.
“Families from domestic violence and homelessness when they finally get a place to live, we go in and we furnish and provide for that family,” she shared.
“If you’re having a clean out at home, I’m the woman that your ring so that we can come and pick up some stuff.”
Blackroo also run monthly disability discos, and the Upper Hunter Food and Toy Appeal and community Christmas lunch.
“There is so many people doing it tough at the moment and we’ve got people coming for our support that have never had to come before,” De-anne shared.
“We are a volunteer organization and a charity and we’re finding that we need to increase the different things that we do, and to do that you need money, you need that support of the community.”
Blackroo were also the beneficiaries of the Calcutta held on Thursday night at The Royal Hotel, Muswellbrook, where punters were able to bid for horses running in The Remington Muswellbrook Gold Cup the following day.
