Lioness Enters New Era

At the charter of Lions Club of Singleton Lioness (l-r) Betty Irons, Alysia Upward, Audrey Buckley, Marion Gosling, Deb Collins, Coral Francis, Trish Bailey, Susan Gittoes, Dorothy Brandley, Narelle Taylor, Jane Bryson, Jo Gilchrist, Gai Scoles, Pam Dicks, Robyn MacLeod, Leanne Anderson, Carol Burgmann, Sue Gardiner, Robyn Wylie and District Governor Geoff Kilmurray.

It was with dignity and grace that Singleton Lioness farewelled their 36 years of history to enter a new era under the name of Lions Club of Singleton Lioness.

Following a Lions International decision, Lioness Clubs throughout the world have been disbanded with those behind the push wanting Lioness groups to instead come under the same banner as Lions.

It has not been an easy process and at the charter dinner in Singleton earlier this month, much praise was placed upon club secretary Pam Dicks and president Sue Gardiner who worked their way through a mountain of paperwork to ensure correct procedure was carried out.

Federal Member Joel Fitzgibbon said he receives thousands of invitations to attend events but he never says no to a charter dinner out of respect for the organisations and the role they play in the community.

He said he had tremendous faith in knowing the Lionness would continue to make a positive contribution to the community.

It was all smiles as the ladies received their charter certificates and paid respect to the charter process.

Heading into the future the girls in the purple shirts will continue to serve morning tea on Australia Day among the other events they always attend.

They will continue to raise money for local needs, continue to meet on a monthly basis and continue to share the broader Lions message of service to the community.
