Muswellbrook Rams player Wade Mckenzie (right) is making “positive progress” after a horrific incident in the last ten minutes of the Rams game against Denman on Sunday afternoon.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called to Olympic Park just after 3:30pm on Sunday after Wade went to make a tackle and was knocked out.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also called to the scene to stabilise him before flying him in a critical condition to the John Hunter Hospital.

Wade was placed into an induced coma.

He remains in hospital, but the Rams have put a statement on their Facebook page with an update to say he is making “positive progress”.

“We can say that Wade is making positive progress and we are so proud of the true Wado strength and his never back down attitude that he has continued to show. He is remarkable!

“We would like to take this opportunity to send our sincerest thank you and appreciation to all who assisted Wade last Sunday. Our club’s first aid officers, club volunteers, Jackson Ball from Denman, the local ambulance and police officers, and the Westpac rescue helicopter…”

“Lastly, to NSWRL and Group 21, for their support of our club this week. You have been wonderful at providing services to our players and club volunteers to ensure everyone is doing ok in this tough time. We have felt supported this whole process.”

“Please keep Wade, his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers, and feel free to leave a message below to share with his family.

“We know Wade will be feeling the love from each and every one of you, and we look forward to sharing more positive news about Wades recovery when the time is right. Thankyou again to everyone and we love you Wado!”
