Muswellbrook-trained Tanglewood will compete for a share in a $2million prizemoney purse when he races in The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday 19 October 2024.

Tanglewood is trained by Todd Howlett and the five-year-old lines up against 13 of the fastest NSW country-trained sprinters in the prestigious race.

Tanglewood was selected to race in The Kosciuszko by the Calala Inn Tamworth syndicate who won a ‘slot’ in the race in a sweepstakes conducted by the TAB.

Howlett is no stranger to The Kosciuszko, having trained Two Big Fari to fifth in the 2020 edition. Tanglewood will be ridden by Sydney jockey Josh Parr, who has ridden the gelding five times for two metropolitan wins and a metropolitan second.

Tanglewood’s most recent win was on Randwick’s Kensington track on 11 September 2024. He also comfortably won a trial at Muswellbrook last Wednesday (9 October) and tuned up for the big event with a course-proper gallop at Muswellbrook yesterday (Monday 14 October).

“I was over the moon with his last run, he hit the line terrific, is in great order and I can’t wait,” Howlett said recently.

The Kosciuszko is the world’s richest race for country-trained horses with first prizemoney standing at $1million.

“The Muswellbrook Race Club is delighted for Todd and his team, the owners and slot holders,” Christine Williams Muswellbrook Race Club general manager said.

“The selection of Tanglewood, among such tough competition, is a credit everyone involved and we can’t wait to cheer them on come Saturday.”
