Racing is in his blood.

Now Singleton’s own Ryan Gilroy is set to tackle the famous Mount Panorama racing circuit this November in the Challenge Bathurst time trial.

Challenge Bathurst is an annual competition run with the support of Bathurst Regional Council. The invitation only competition lets participants on the track with the goal of setting the fastest lap time in their division.

Gilroy is competing in Division E of the NSW production car series, taking his black Mazda 3 to Bathurst.

“I’ve dreamed of racing at Bathurst for a really long time, so this is a dream come true,” Gilroy told The Hunter River Times.

Gilroy has been training with ‘the Road to Bathurst’ for the last 15 months, under the tutelage of former touring car driver Phil Alexander.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Gilroy says that he has had limited access to a real racetrack and, as a result, he is using racing simulators to help learn the layouts of the tracks.

“I’ll drive a wheelbarrow if I have to,” he playfully added.

After competing in Challenge Bathurst, Gilroy hopes to take his racing career to the next level and rise through the ranks of the NSW production series.

Hopefully one day he will also compete in the Supercars Championship.
